Thomas Jefferson Humphreys (my 4x Great Grandfather) was born January 25, 1843 in Georgia to John Thomas Burrough Humphreys and Sara Brock Humphreys. In March of 1862, he joined the “cessies” [period slang for those supporting cessation of the South] and enlisted in the Confederate Army at age 19. He was assigned to Company A of the 41st Regiment of the Georgia Infantry. He was later transferred to Company D. At 20, he was captured in the last Battle of Vicksburg with his Company on July 4th of 1863. He was paroled July 16th after being made to sign a voucher stating he would not take up arms again against the Union. Of course everyone signed, but he reported in again to his regiment after release. He was counted AWOL from November to December 3 1863, which is his last record.
According to regiment records he would have fought in these battles:

In March of 1865, he wrote a letter formally requesting his pardon from the U.S. and President Andrew Johnson for his participation in the rebellion. A copy of his voucher, letter and complete military records are attached to his profile on my family tree site.
